Infiltration rate is a measure of how fast water enters the soil. The moisture content of the soil will affect the rate of infiltration so it is important to undertake two or three tests to get an accurate estimate of the saturated infiltration rate. The aim is improve your soil structure over time to maximise infiltration and reduce the rate of runoff but you need to understand where you are at first to start making improvements.
For best results make sure the sampling area is free of residue and weeds or vegetation is trimmed to the soil surface before inserting the ring.
